Abstract
Contrary to the white samples the spectral and colorimetric attributes of black specimens have not been investigated, profoundly. While, like whiteness the blackness is a phsycophysical phenomenon and the comparing of these phenomena is not so easy. Since industries need to quality control their products it is necessary to represent an index to evaluate the blackness. Obviousely, without analyzing the spectral and colorimetric behaviors of black samples it is impossible to achaieve a blackness index. This paper reviews the first attempts tried to systematically assess the blackness.
