Mechanical moving assemblies in vacuum and direct contact between surfaces in space applications have led to extensive research into solid-solid lubricating coatings with a long life span. Recently, the use of diamond like carbon (DLC) coating has become commonplace and, depending on the properties required, different methods of deposition are used. Hydrogenated DLC coatings have grown enormously in the industry for a variety of uses, due to its low coefficient of friction and high abrasion resistance. The most commonly used method for the synthesis of Diamond like carbon films is the low-pressure microwave plasma CVD of methane and hydrogen gas mixtures. But these processes cost a lot. The electroplating method is in competition with other methods in terms of the cost of equipment and the simplicity of the process for the production of DLC films and related carbon materials. Due to the fact that the Diamond like carbon coating is obtained by electrochemical method have the internal stress , to solve this problem Diamond like carbon doped with various elements which seems Ni have a better performance in terms of mechanical and tribological properties. In this paper, we studied about types of DLC, its application and manufacturing method, metals dope DLC, Ni dope DLC and its mechanical and tribological properties.
