Explaining the Pattern of Color Spectrum Used in Various Parts of Qajar Era Mosques

Abstract

During the Qajar era, parallel with the 19th century in Europe, Iranian architecture and art entered a new phase. During this period, religious buildings, especially mosques, were constructed with unique designs and decorations, and tile work played a significant role in the ceilings. During this era, one important aspect of mosque design was the artistic use of color and tile work in the ceiling structure. This qualitative analytical-descriptive research focuses on the selected statistical population and adopts an interpretive approach. Data collection was conducted through library research and document analysis. Different parts of a mosque can employ varying degrees of patterns and colors for various reasons. The most embellished part of a mosque might evoke a sense of paradise and closeness to the divine, while the least adorned part may emphasize simplicity and focus on the essence of the divine. Other factors, such as the architect's taste, the city's climate, and the natural resources available, all influence the degree of embellishment and color in each mosque.
