Prior to 1968, screen printing was used for textile printing silk. One of the problems of this method is the error due to switching the screens for the different printed colors, the error will increase by adding the number of used screens based on design. So generally the colors are limited for an acceptable plan in screen printing. On the other hand, according to the screen printing process, creating a continuous color tone and the color combination is very difficult and sometimes impossible. Therefore the printed images by this method are unreal and do not have the desired continuity. For the first time in 1970 in order to overcome the disadvantages of screen printing industry, the idea of combining methods of paper and fabric printing were presented and transfer printing was born. Transfer printing is a type of printing in which a color scheme of a printed paper will transfer on a cloth or polymeric film. This paper provides an overview of the methods and factors affecting the transfer printing.
